Gary W. Kendall selected "Man of the Year" by the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) Western Virginia Chapter


Click to enlargeThe Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) is America’s only national organization for union women. The Western Virginia Chapter was formed in 1985 in the Roanoke area. CLUW is an organization within the union movement. We educate our members, and keep them up-to-date on a variety of issues of concern that impact our daily lives as working families, i.e. economic issues, fair trade policies, healthcare, retirement security, public education, and affordable higher education.

Click to enlargeWith men and women members from 60 international and national unions across the U.S. and Canada, the Western Virginia chapter is just 1 of 75 chapters, and is endorsed by the AFL-CIO and its international and national unions.

Each year, the Roanoke-based Western Virginia chapter at the Annual Bread & Roses Labor Awards Dinner recognizes honorees who, through their work, is an advocate for working people. Gary Kendall, who has helped and represented workers over the last many years was chosen to receive our 2007 “Man of the Year” Award.

Click to enlargeGary W. Kendall has practiced law in Virginia and throughout the Southeast for the past 30 years. After graduating from law school at the University of Richmond in 1976, he began practicing with the law firm of Michie Hamlett Lowry Rasmussen & Tweel PLLC in Charlottesville, Virginia where he is a senior partner.

Mr. Kendall has served as a trial lawyer representing consumers and working people for most of his career. He is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, The Southern Trial Lawyers Association, and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He has served in national leadership roles in all of these organizations and is a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Click to enlargeMr. Kendall serves as a member of the Steering Committee for PBM Litigation presently pending against Express Scripts, Inc. in the United States District Court Eastern District of Missouri, St. Louis, Missouri. He has appeared before Congress, state legislators, and Attorneys Generals to promote PBM legislation and transparency in PBM contracts.

Click to enlargeAs General Counsel to the Virginia AFL-CIO, he has worked with many union fund administrators and has provided advice concerning the negotiation and implementation of PBM contracts. Mr. Kendall is married and has three children, two of whom are presently attending law school.
