Anthony “Tony” M. Russell received his bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Virginia. He is a partner at MichieHamlett in their Roanoke office. Tony handles all types of cases in which individuals have been injured or killed because of the bad actions of others.
Tony has tried over 100 jury trials with many $1 million-plus verdicts. He has been recognized as having the largest jury verdicts in Virginia in 2017, 2018, and 2022. Tony has represented numerous plaintiffs before the Supreme Court of Virginia including Sawyer v. Comerci, 264 Va. 68 (2002); Monahan v. Obici Medical Management Servs., Inc., 271 Va. 621(2006); May v. Caruso, 264 Va. 358 (2002); Taboada v Daily Seven, 272 Va. 211 (2006); and Rascher v. Friend, 279 Va. 370 (2010).
He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates; a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America; and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He has been named in Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions-Plaintiffs, Medical Malpractice- Plaintiffs, Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs, and Product Liability Litigation- Plaintiffs, and “Roanoke Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation- Plaintiffs”, as well as listed in Best Lawyers in America- Business Edition.
In addition to his active legal practice, Tony is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. Perhaps his greatest passion are animals, especially his four-legged children: Amarula-a chocolate lab, Middie-a domestic shorthair cat, and Champ-a Pit Bull Mix.
